New Public Member for NC Cemetery Commission

FCAT Treasurer and Board Member, Glenn Cutler, the former State Registrar and Director of Vital Records for North Carolina has accepted an appointment by Governor Perdue to the NC Cemetery Commission.

Mr. Cutler will now serve as one of two public members on the nine-member Commission. The Commission is responsible for the regulation and supervision of some 170 perpetual care cemeteries, and the organizations and persons associated with them:  cemetery management organizations, cemetery sales organizations, cemetery brokers and individual pre-need cemetery salespeople licensed under the laws of North Carolina. (Many other cemeteries in North Carolina are  not overseen by the Commission. Among  others these  include city, church, and family cemeteries not providing perpetual care.

The Cemetery Commission is self-financed through licensing and other fees. It  now is a part of the NC Department of Commerce.  The Commission holds at least four scheduled public meetings,  in the first month of each quarter (January,  April, etc.). The Commission is the agency responsible for handling complaints about cemetery performance.

Their web site  is: NC Cemetery Commission
